TikTok Link Not Recognized: How to Copy the Right URL
By Mytiktools Team 3 min read
"Link not recognized" almost always means the URL points at something other than one specific video. Knowing the shapes of TikTok URLs makes this obvious at a glance.
Quick answer
You need a URL containing /video/ followed by a long number, or a short vm.tiktok.com / vt.tiktok.com link that redirects to one.
The URL shapes
- Works: https://www.tiktok.com/@username/video/7300000000000000000
- Works: https://vm.tiktok.com/ABC123/ — a short link that redirects to a video
- Does not work: https://www.tiktok.com/@username — a profile
- Does not work: hashtag, sound, search and Live URLs
Copying a clean link
- In the app: tap the arrow on the video, then Copy link — not Share to a chat app.
- On desktop: click the video so it opens on its own page, then copy the address bar.
- Paste into the downloader immediately, before anything else overwrites your clipboard.
Links shared through other apps
Messaging apps sometimes wrap links in their own redirector or append text. If the URL does not start with tiktok.com, vm.tiktok.com or vt.tiktok.com, open it in a browser first and copy the address it lands on.
