Turning a TikTok Transcript Into Subtitles (SRT and VTT)

Captions are no longer optional: a large share of short video is watched muted. If you already have a transcript with timestamps, producing a proper subtitle file takes one click.

SRT vs VTT

• SRT is the oldest and most widely accepted format — Premiere, Resolve, CapCut and most upload forms take it.
• VTT is the web standard used by the HTML <track> element and supports styling and positioning.
• The text content is the same; only the header and timecode punctuation differ.

Writing captions people can actually read

• Keep lines under roughly 42 characters so they do not wrap awkwardly on a phone.
• Two lines on screen at most.
• Break at natural pauses rather than mid-phrase.
• Leave a caption up for at least one second, even for a single word.

Editing before export

Fix names, brands and slang in the transcript first. Correcting text once is far quicker than editing burned-in captions later, and the corrected version flows into every export format at the same time.
