The cover is a still image TikTok publishes alongside a video — either a frame the creator picked or an uploaded design. Tools retrieve that published image; they cannot create one that does not exist.
How creators set a cover

- Leave it to TikTok, which chooses an early frame automatically.
Resolution and format
Covers are JPEG images in the vertical 9:16 shape of the video. The exact pixel dimensions vary between posts, which is why a good tool reports the size of the image it actually retrieved instead of promising a fixed resolution.
Why a thumbnail URL can stop working
Cover URLs point at TikTok's CDN and often carry an expiry signature. That is fine while you download the file, but a copied URL may stop resolving later — save the image itself if you need it long-term.
