How to Download a TikTok Thumbnail
By Mytiktools Team 4 min read
Every public TikTok video is published with a cover image — the still frame you see in feeds and profile grids. Because it is an ordinary image on TikTok's servers, retrieving it takes nothing more than the video link.
Quick answer
Copy the TikTok video URL, paste it into the thumbnail downloader, press Get Thumbnail and save the image that appears.
Step by step
- Open the TikTok post and tap Share → Copy link (or copy the address bar URL on desktop).
- Paste the link into the thumbnail tool.
- Press Get Thumbnail and wait a moment while the post is resolved.
- Check the preview and the reported image dimensions.
- Press Download thumbnail, or copy the image URL if you only need a reference.
When a thumbnail cannot be retrieved
Private, deleted and region-restricted posts cannot be resolved at all, and a small number of posts come back without a cover image. In those cases the tool says so rather than showing a placeholder — there is no way to recover an image TikTok does not publish.
What you get
TikTok serves covers as JPEG images, so the download saves with a .jpg extension at whatever resolution TikTok published. Nothing is re-encoded, so the file you save is the file TikTok serves.
Frequently asked questions
- Is downloading a TikTok thumbnail free?
- Yes, and it needs no account or app — just the link.
- Can I do this on my phone?
- Yes. The tool is browser-based and works the same on iPhone and Android.
